Davis Hooper from Auburn University and Will Clemmons from Alabama Christian Academy will be honored by the Montgomery Quarterback Club at Tuesday night’s annual awards banquet. Both players will be presented the “Andrews Institute Comeback Player of the Year Award.”
Dr. James Andrews and his staff are sponsoring the award to recognize a college and high school football player who suffered a major injury then fought back through rigorous rehabilitation while maintaining a positive, no-quit attitude.

AUBURN—Former Auburn quarterback Cam Newton, a rookie with the Carolina Panthers, was named the Sporting News Rookie of the Year. Voting was done by NFL players, coaches and executives.

Newton, who was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, received 327 votes while second-place finisher, Denver linebacker Von Miller, had 96.5 votes.

Prattville Honored by MaxPreps Print E-mail

            PRATTVILLE, Ala., Jan. 23, 2012 -- The Prattville High School football team has finished No. 21 nationally for the 2011 season. The announcement was made by MaxPreps, a California-based company that ranks more than 16,000 high school varsity football teams.           

            Prattville (12-2) lost a pair of games by a total of five points during the season, but marched forward en route to its third Alabama Class 6A state championship over four seasons as it slipped past Hoover, 35-34, on Dec. 2, 2011. Prattville is one of 50 schools being honored on the seventh annual MaxPreps Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard.
