From the CBS 8 West Alabama Newsroom--   Big Brother will soon be watching more and more of what happens around the city of Selma.

Mayor George Evans says more than 70 cameras will be put up all over the city to help improve public safety.

Evans says they'll be installed at public buildings and city properties all over town.

He says the cameras will help deter crime at those places and make them safer.

"We need it cause we got people doing things in the city that really shouldn't be done instead of respecting other people and their property," said Selma resident Bertran Woodson. "I think it'll be a good idea for the city."

The cameras will be monitored by the Selma Police Department.
