From the CBS 8 Troy Newsroom-- Pike County's leaders laid out their goals for 2012 in their State of the County Address today.

Officials say last year the unemployment rate dropped, and finances are in good shape.

For 2012, Troy Mayor Jimmy Lunsford says his priorities are to recruit more businesses and continue improving the city.

"We're at the top of the world if you will right now," says Lunsford. "We came through this economic crisis with a lot of new job creation."

Brundidge Mayor James Ramage says his goal is to fill all the empty store fronts in his downtown area.

"We would like to tackle some additional retail, and try to fill some buildings that are vacant and try to get some people in them," says Ramage.

County Commission Chairman Homer Wright says he hopes to improve county roads and bridges.

"I hope there's growth and more revenue coming in so we can fix some roads, bridges, and we have a lot of re-surfacing we need to do. Lots of roads that need repaving," says Wright.

The Pike Co. Chamber of Commerce hosted the sold-out breakfast event at the Troy County Club.
