CBS 8 News is covering Greenville where city officials are considering starting a city school system.

Tuesday night, they released the results of a feasibility study to the public.

The study, which cost the city of Greenville about $44,000, was handed out to a crowd of nearly 200 people.

Most of the discussion centered around the possibility-- is it feasible for the city to start their own system? Start up would cost almost $5.5 million and the mayor says it is not something they can do right away because he refuses to raise taxes.

But if the city decides to start a system in the future, the mayor says they now know what to expect.

City officials say the current education system must improve, for the area to thrive.

"For some reason in Greenville, people have never really wanted to talk about education and we want to bring it to the forefront and we want to make sure that education, that everybody understands that we can't move as a city like I want us to move, until we do something about our education," says McLendon.
