CBS 8 News is covering Butler County where the 10 week weight loss program "Scale Back Alabama" is underway this week and this year, several of the local schools are taking part.

Organizers tell us participation in the program has started to dwindle since it's first year in Butler County in 2008.

But with teachers and school administrators stepping up to the scale, the numbers may peak again. Many of the 5th grade teachers at Greenville Middle School say they are participating to set a good, healthy example for their students.

"I think it will encourage the kids you know when they see the teachers trying to eat right at lunch and you know weigh in every week it will help encourage them to do maybe the same thing," says Debbie Poff.

Weigh ins continue through Friday.

Teams can still go sign up at Pioneer Electric Cooperative or L.V Stabler Hospital in Greenville.
