Pain At The Gas Pump

From 8 On Your Side -- As big oil companies defended high gas prices and their profits on Capitol Hill Thursday, drivers here say they continue to feel the pain at the pump.

Right now, the national average for a gallon of gas is $3.98. CBS 8 found a little bit lower prices than that in our area, for example it's $3.68 at the Entec in Prattville, and $3.78 on the East Boulevard in Montgomery. But the high prices are taking a toll on local business owners. "Lawn mowers, weed eaters, edgers, everything takes gas and everybody is being hit by this economy right now, nobody wants to pay more than they have to but I have to make sure I have enough to pay for my equipment and put food on my table" said Rick Woodall owner of Outdoor Services Lawncare.

The average per gallon this time last year was $2.89.
