Drugs Used to Treat Indigestion Can Have Harmful Side Effects for Some Women Print E-mail

There's more evidence drugs that treat indigestion can increase the risk of hip fracture after menopause.

A new study of 80-thousand post menopausal women found those who took proton pump inhibitors for acid reflex were 35 percent more likely to break their hip.

Massachusetts researchers say the risk is even higher for women who smoke.

Doctors believe the pills have an effect on bone density.

The FDA has already issued warnings about this link.
