The start of a new school year brings a lot of excitement for students -- but students in the band at Georgiana School are faced with the same old needs.

The band program is growing, but there aren't enough instruments for everyone who wants to make music.

Georgiana is a K-12 school, so even the elementary-age students want their chance to perform. But they are faced with worn-out instruments and a lack of flutes, saxophones, clarinets and trumpets.

Some students are too small to handle trombones and baritone horns, which are in good supply.

The school would like donations of money or unwanted musical instruments. If you can help, call (334) 376-9130.

In the meantime, the school is putting on a talent show -- the Southern Alabama Talent Showcase -- as a fundraiser.

The show is Saturday, Oct. 8 at 5 p.m. at the school. Sept. 15 is the deadline to apply if you want to perform, either by singing or playing instruments, you just have to be at least 10 years old. There will be cash prizes.

Call (334) 362-3028 for more information about the talent show, or click here.
