While proration has taken a toll on every Alabama school, Notasulga High School in Macon County has taken an additional funding hit. That's why students are asking their community to help with needs both large and small.

Notasulga High School principal Brelinda Sullen says Victoryland used to give her school $25,000. But once Victoryland stopped offering electronic bingo games, she says the money stopped coming.

In addition, she says many of her students' parents worked at Victoryland and were laid off. All students receive free lunches because of their finances.

The school has many needs. The band needs instruments and other help. The bleachers could use replacement.

In addition, none of the lockers can be used because even though they have combination locks, they can still be pulled open. So students have to carry all of their books and gear all day long.

Chairs in the auditorium are mismatched. In classrooms, there's a need for paper, pencils, ink cartridges, diskettes and CDs.

To help, call (334) 724-1240.
